European Autonomous Driving

The European Autonomous Driving Observatory brings together leading players from the automotive and mobility sectors, acting as a knowledge hub on the evolution of autonomous driving. By providing a common space for research and discussion, it aims to identify the needs arising as the industry takes shape and to provide companies and institutions with evidence to inform their strategic decisions, ultimately supporting Europe’s competitiveness.

Objectives of the Observatory

Established in 2026, the Observatory analyses the technological, regulatory and market developments shaping autonomous driving, as well as its potential economic, social and environmental impacts and benefits. It also promotes collaboration among OEMs, technology developers, infrastructure operators, mobility and service providers, insurance companies, public authorities and European institutions.

Research carried out by the Observatory
As part of its annual edition, the European Autonomous Driving Observatory carries out research activities covering the main developments affecting autonomous driving.

In particular, it aims to:

Analyze the evolution of the application scenario in Europe, identifying the most interesting initiatives and making international comparisons;
Analyze the economic, social and environmental impacts of the diffusion of Robotaxis and Robosharing;
Analyze regulatory developments in the field of Autonomous Driving;
Analyze trends in technologies such as the evolution of Artificial Intelligence and Softwares;
Analyze the evolution of V2X technologies and Smart Road solutions;
Analyze the symbiotic evolution of vehicle electrification and automation;
Analyze the perspective and the experience of OEMs through primary sources (e.g. surveys, interviews…);
Analyze the Autonomous Driving projects launched and the future intentions of European authorities, investigating the new business models enabled by the partnership between PA and companies;
Analyze possible strategies to enhance data coming from connected and autonomous vehicles, with a focus on privacy, cybersecurity and Insurtech;
Map the value chain evolution and analysing potential newcomers and startups in the existing ecosystem.
