International Observatory on Electronic Invoicing

The International Observatory on Electronic Invoicing sets out to support decision makers in understanding the opportunities that digital tools can provide to digitalize and automate business processes and inter-firm relations. By doing so, the Observatory wished to propel the international community towards a more significant and aware digitalization through grounded empirical evidence, independent discussion, and spaces for debate.

The International Observatory’s research streams

In the context of the 2022-2023 research edition, the International Observatory on eInvoicing sets out to:

Analyze and map the introduction of eInvoicing obligations in Europe and the spread of Peppol at the international level
Develop and deliver a survey to eInvoicing representatives in European countries to obtain an updated representation of the state of eInvoicing and identify upcoming trends
Issue a survey aimed at Peppol Access Points to understand their evolutionary strategies
Examine different taxation models at the European level
Assess the VAT gap at the European level and identify strategies to reduce it
Analyze the impact of the European adoption of electronic invoicing for the VAT system as a whole (in collaboration with Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg)
Study international reporting and compliance models
Discuss and propose a single model for electronic invoicing at the European level
Identify potential services provided by offering companies and fiscal agencies after the introduction of an eInvoicing obligation

The activities planned by the eInvoicing Observatory for 2022-2023 are:

A kick-off meeting to set up and discuss research topics and cooperation formats across Partners, Institutions, Academics, the EU Community, and the Research Team.
Two workshops for the whole Community to share research results give updates on regulations, present concrete cases, and network.
Production of a digital summary report containing all research results which will be digitally distributed to all participants and sent to all the Observatory’s supporters. It will also promote the Observatory’s supporters with company logos and profiles.
Distribution of workshop materials containing an update of research results which will be sent to all of the Observatory’s supporters and will promote the Observatory’s supporters with company logos and profiles.
