Digital Transformation Academy Observatory: 2023 Research

Digital Transformation Academy Observatory is a cultural project conceived by the School of Management of Politecnico di Milano for the digital innovation community, based on Digital Innovation Observatories and Mip experience. Under the patronage of ASSI, Assintel, Aused, CDTI, CIO AICA Forum, ClubTI and PA Forum and is a point of reference and open laboratory for developing knowledge and spreading culture. Through original and innovative methodologies, the Academy intends to work alongside the business world to stimulate digital transformation within companies and contribute towards achieving greater competitiveness. The process includes four interactive workshops for C-level executives who wish to act as spokespersons for digital transformation within their company. The Academy is currently in its fifteenth edition and during this time has produced over 3,300 hours of training, 91 closed door workshops, 41 reports and 16 open conventions, working with over 4,700 Executives.

Goals and Digital Transformation Academy Investigation Areas

The project pursues the following objectives:

be the point of reference and open laboratory for developing knowledge and spreading culture; use original and innovative methodologies to work alongside companies in order to stimulate digital transformation and contribute towards achieving greater competitiveness;
offer constant exposure to the broadest and most prestigious community of C-levels interested in the Digital Transformation of major Italian companies and of the Public Sector, through a course of meetings and social gatherings;
enable contact with the most advanced Digital Transformation methodologies, with Digital Innovation Observatories and POLIMI Graduate School of Management.

Among the fields investigated over the years:

the role of digital innovation;
major trends and fields of digital innovation;
ICT governance choices;
evolution of ICT executives competencies;
role of CIOs and their relationship with the Board and business line management;
role of Innovation manager;
the measure of innovation;
approach and ecologic transition projects of companies, authorities, and startups.

Activities planned by the Observatory for 2023 are:

Annual invitation-only Workshop calendar dedicated to Line Executives, CIOs, and Academy partners. The workshops address the steps to design the company’s digital transformation roadmap through an innovative format strongly based on interaction, work groups and interactive activities to develop relationships and experience sharing between the participating executives, Partner representatives, and valued guests among the Top Executives from the Digital Transformation Practitioners Board. The 2023 calendar includes the following meetings:
- February 2023 Workshop «Innovazione digitale: l’agenda 2023 per un futuro sostenibile – Digital innovation – 2023 agenda for a sustainable future»
- March 2023 Workshop «Transizione ecologica e digitale – Ecologic and digital transition»
- April 2023 Workshop «AI, Metaverso, ambienti Phygital e realtà immersive: la customer experience alla sfida del futuro – AI, Mataverse, Phygtail, and immersive reality: customer experience and the challenge for the future»
- September 2023 Workshop «Quale ruolo del digitale nell’economia circolare? – what is the role of digital technology in circular economy?»
Exclusive research focused on the main trends in investments and in digital innovation organizational transformations such as 2023 Innovation Survey and related Reports.
Exclusive POLIMI Graduate School of Management Education and Training with modules specifically designed for supply and demand managers, professionals, and entrepreneurs who believe that digital innovation plays an important role in the ability to compete of business organizations. The formula enables participating managers to compare and share experiences and enhance relationships through discussion, testimonials, group work, and mentorship activities.

The Digital Transformation Academy community

The work of the past years has enabled the creation of a community of CIOs and Innovation Managers in Italy that now includes more than 1,500 participants. In addition to the CIOs and Innovation Managers, numerous CEOs, General Managers, and Line Executives also contribute to Research and Workshops, driving the assembly’s perspective to the strategic role of Digital Innovation in business. The Academy also relies on the Digital Transformation Practitioners Board consisting of 38 Top Executives from major companies and Public Sector bodies.
