The bar chart presents the distribution by platform type (permissioned vs permissionless) of Blockchain & Distributed Ledger implementation projects developed and surveyed by the Observatory worldwide, split by the years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. Platforms that require registration and identification to access the network and therefore approval from a central authority or the network itself are considered Permissioned. Whereas permissionless are platforms to which anyone can participate and freely perform any type of activity, and in which the public ledger content is public and available to everyone.
