There are expected to be 40 million smartphones in Italy by the end of 2015 and 10 million tablets. The new LTE networks already provide coverage for 80% of the population and 8 million objects are connected through mobile networks. The Mobile world has generated an ecosystem that enables increasingly greater sections of the economy, contributing towards lowering the digital divide. Mobile Economy: worth 25.7 billion Euros, equal to 1.65% of the net GDP of traditional mobile telephony services, now down by 16%. Mobile Economy grows by 23%, driven mainly by Mobile Commerce (up 55%) and investments in 3G and 4G networks (up by 39%). Funds earmarked by companies and public authorities for mobile solutions to support their business processes are growing by 24% and for marketing and advertising on smartphones and tablets by 41%. The development of mobile commerce and mobile payment solutions will bring the total value of Mobile Economy to over 37 billion Euros in 2017 (2.3% of GDP).
