Italian companies show greater maturity in approaching the Cloud compared to the past, but in what way are large companies and SMBs responding to the challenges and opportunities resulting from these solutions? What organizational and technologic changes are needed for Cloud migration? How is the offering supply chain evolving?
ICT Departments are becoming more aware and are beginning to take a more mature approach to this topic and to understand the real repercussions for the corporate information system. Companies have invested 1.05 billion Euros to develop and update their existing infrastructural and application assets. In doing so, the use of Cloud services appears less improvised and more closely connected to corporate information system strategies of evolution. Investment for these enabling factors, which we know under the umbrella term “Cloud Enabling Infrastructure”, allow a hybrid information system to be created. This system combines the internal systems with the services offered by the Public Cloud and enhances the features and opportunities of both models.
Taking as a benchmark the major European markets (UK, Germany, France and Spain), the USA, and the major Far Eastern markets (South Korea and Japan), these show markedly higher penetration rates for e-commerce than Italy, and slightly lower growth rates. Compared to the emerging markets (Brazil, India and Russia), Italy has a somewhat higher penetration rate and a generally lower growth rate. Italy occupies an anomalous position, having a growth rate in line with more mature markets, but a penetration rate only slightly above that in emerging markets. In other words, a market that is neither very dynamic nor very mature, but holding as yet untapped potential.
