The most innovative digital payment modes (eCommerce, ePayment, Mobile Payment & Commerce, Contactless Payment, Mobile POS) account for 21% of all digital payments made with cards (in 2016 they accounted for 15%) and are worth over €46 billion.
Contactless cards (€18 billion, +150%) and transactions via Mobile (€6.7 billion, +60%) together account for over half of this market.
The overall market of New Digital Payments could exceed €100 billion by 2020.
During 2017, purchases of goods and services and payment of top-ups, bills or taxes via PC or Tablet with credit cards or using digital wallets (not including Home Banking transactions) were worth €20.3 billion, an increase of 10% on 2016.
Purchases via smartphone increased by 65% during 2017 and are now worth more than €5.8 billion, which is equal to a quarter of all online purchases.
Mobile POS devices were used for €900 million worth of transactions (+9%).
