The contactless infrastructure keeps growing: today 40 million cards (2 out of 5) and 1 million POS (1 out of 2) are enabled and in 2019 they will transact between 50 and 70 billion euros. So, Italians have become aware of how easy it is to pay by simply placing a card next to the POS. Innovative payments exceed 30 billion €, propelled by contactless payments (7 billion €, + 700%) and Mobile (3.9 billion €, +63%). The steep rise of contactless payments drives “New Digital Payments” (eCommerce, ePayment, Mobile Payment & Commerce, remote and proximity, Mobile POS and Contactless Payment) that double the growth rate, at +51% compared to 2015 and are worth 16% of all card digital payments. PC or tablet based payment and purchase of products and services (with card or Mobile Wallet) grows by 14%, reaching a value of 18.7 billion €. Purchases of goods and services through Mobile site or Mobile app are also increasing (+63%), reaching 3.3 billion €, equal to approximately 17% of total eCommerce transactions. Payments made using a smartphone as POS reach 600 million € (+61%), with payments for transport doubled to 90 million €. In 2016 the Taxi sector registered nearly 4.5 million € paid through smartphones, over 8 million bus tickets were sold, almost 7 million for parking, and over 10 million in car sharing journeys. The Mobile Wallet Customer Experience is positive: one in two users claims to be very satisfied.
