Export is increasingly important for the Italian economy: over one fourth of end user demand comes from markets in other countries. Digital innovation can promote Export and open new markets, but it is still underused due to logistics, legal, commercial and payment related issues. Direct online Export (with Italian operator/organization) of consumer goods is, on its own, worth 1.5 billion euros, while indirect export (enabled by foreign operators/organizations) is worth 4.5 billion. eCommerce is covered primarily by major online retailers followed by marketplaces and private sales sites. 65% of online exports is Fashion related, about 30% is Food and Design (15% each). Food and Fashion, big export markets through traditional channels, still not using eCommerce much. There are many still missed opportunities for online sales in China or the USA. Success can be achieved with dedicated Export models specific per Country type and sector.
