Connected Car & Mobility

Established in 2019 to respond to the growing interest of public and private companies towards the potential offered by new technologies applied to the connected car and mobility sectors. The Observatory Connected Car & Mobility aims to generate and share knowledge on the evolution of vehicles in “smart” terms and, more in general, on the role of mobility supporting digital technologies, ultimately to contribute to the market development in a context that is characterized by insufficient clarity regarding the status of applications, the enabled benefits, and the expected evolution of enabling technologies.

Connected Car & Mobility Observatory Research

Within the annual edition, the Connected Car & Mobility Observatory aims to launch numerous research activities in several fields regarding the evolution of connected cars and Smart Mobility. In particular:

• analyze the Connected Car e Smart Mobility application scenario in Italy, identifying the most interesting initiatives, and structure a comparison with other countries;
• estimate the spread and value of the Connected Car market in Italy;
• analyze the strategies enabling to valorize the data collected by connected cars, investigating privacy and cyber security related topics;
• examine in greater depth the evolution of the Connected Car & Mobility market value chain analyzing emerging business models and building a census of associated services;
• look closely into main technology trends, analyzing the evolution of V2X networks and 5G infrastructure, and of autonomous drive trends and of ADAS systems;
• analyze the evolution of consumer behavior regarding connected cars and Smart Mobility through a survey;
• analyze Smart Mobility, Smart Road & MaaS (Mobility as a service) projects in progress and future intentions of Italian City’s and local government as well as infrastructure operators, investigating new business models enabled by the Public-Private partnership and synergies with the sustainability and decarbonisation world;
• closely examine the status of fleet management initiatives in Italy through an ad hoc survey targeted to enterprise companies, estimating costs and benefits;
• look into the point of view of dealers along the Automotive and mobility supply chains, spare parts dealers, and the aftermarket sector through an ad hoc survey and analysis of the most significant projects and activities launched on the international scene;
• monitor the innovation edge, analyzing the most interesting startups in Italy and abroad dedicated to connected cars and Smart Mobility;
• set the base to launch Connected Car and Smart Mobility related pilot projects.
