821 million euros spent in 2015 by online players in Italy in government authorised games with winnings in money, or 4.8% of offline+online gambling; two thirds of active online players spend less than 50€ a month. The market grows by 13% from Casino Games and Sports Bets. While online Poker keeps dropping (-18%), money spent on Casino Games registers a 27% increase, reaching 328 million € with Online Slots representing 60% of total in value, while Sports Bets go up by 25% reaching 267 million € even though there haven’t been any important summer events in 2015. The Mobile sector plays an increasingly important role: expenditure through Smartphones and Tablets reached 155 million €, with a market penetration of nearly 20%. The state revenue battle is very much alive: the new scheme provides for fixed rates, between 20 and 22%, for expenditure, favouring licensed operators within the EU area.
